Play.
The practice of it oftentimes abandoned past childhood
But its importance steadfast
Do adults forget how to play?
Or do we convince ourselves
It’s no longer something
We need, want, or have time for
Playing for children looks like
Imagination and make believe
Being immersed in nature or art
Play is being in flow
For children, play is being both light years away
And grounded in presence
Play looks like freedom from rules and responsibilities
Freedom from guidance and guardrails
Play can be loud or quiet,
Messy or clean
Play can be with others– a joyful chorus
Play can be alone– a powerful solo
Sweet, inherently playful children
Play is what you do, when you’re most in touch with you
Playing for adults looks like
Imagination and make believe
Being immersed in nature or art
Play is being in flow
For adults, play is being both light years away
And grounded in presence
Play looks like freedom from rules and responsibilities
Freedom from guidance and guardrails
Play can be loud or quiet,
Messy or clean
Play can be with others– a joyful chorus
Play can be alone– a powerful solo
Sweet, inherently playful adults
Play is what you do, when you’re most in touch with you
What is anxiety but a healthy imagination
Misfiring into something dark and daunting
What is anxiety but a pestering, pleading voice
Reminding us of the need to imagine, pretend, and create
We get to decide how to imagine, pretend, and create
Sweet, inherently playful adults–
How will you play today?

Hi, Courtney, this is so beautiful. Thank you. I am particularly swayed by, “What is anxiety but a healthy imagination, misfiring into something dark and daunting.” Indeed.
As always, you give us a slant, a perspective, a new wording for those things we are most likely to overlook. I continue to be a huge fan and a great admirer.
Love and peace,
Ken
Thanks for reading, and your feedback! I always appreciate and look forward to your insight 🙂 Hope you’re well!!
So great to hear from you again! I love this one. It’s truly one of the greatest tragedies in life when people lose that innocence and become forever “adult”.
I understand why it happens, people get weighed down and burdened by the realities and responsibilities of life. But still, I feel like many people don’t even make the effort when given the chance.
It’s always awkward for me when I try to relate to someone about something I’m passionate for, that seems meaningless to them, for instance, when you watch a moving film or episode of a show with someone and the person acts like nothing has happened after it’s over, and they look at you like you are crazy for being so into it. Because to them that’s all it is, but to you, it’s life. Maybe that random tangent makes no sense, I don’t know lol.
But the world needs more people like that, that have that childlike sincerity and wonder, and I hope snd pray I find someone like that one day.
Thank you for sharing, and God bless. Jake
